ACT ONE
[00:00, INT. NEBULA NINE - DAY]
[A spaceship blasts away from a sun.]

MALE CREWMAN
Captain, new contact on long-range sensors. Creaver battleship closing fast.

CAPTAIN MAX
Demagnifiy. Oracle… chances for crew survival if we engage?

ORACLE (electronic female voice)
Our weapons systems are disabled. The alien vessel has superior firepower.

[The captain leans over a capsule with a woman’s body inside, her eyes closed.]

ORACLE
Chances of survival, .1%.

CAPTAIN MAX
That’s a rosy prediction. Stand by for cross-grid link-up. We will live to fight another day. Prepare for flash warp.

MALE CREWMAN
Captain Max, Lieutenant Chloe hasn’t teleported back from Ariel’s moon.

CAPTAIN MAX
Hold flash warp.

[The rising whirring stops with a beep.]

CAPTAIN MAX
We’re not leaving without her.

MALE CREWMAN
But, sir, if we don’t warp in time, all of humanity will be lost.

CAPTAIN MAX
And if we don’t wait for Lieutenant Chloe, our humanity will be lost.

[The crewman smiles.]

FEMALE CREWMAN
Captain, the Creavers have fired ion torpedoes.

[Alarms go off in the background.]

CAPTAIN MAX
Shields up. Man battle stations.

FEMALE CREWMAN
Impact in nine seconds.

CAPTAIN MAX
Status on Lieutenant Chloe?

MALE CREWMAN
She teleported, sir. She’s back on our ship.

CAPTAIN MAX
Initiate flash warp.

MALE CREWMAN
Warping in three, two, one…

[The screens in the front of the room change to “flash warp” mode, and all the crew members lean back with the intensity of the velocity. The screens blackout.]

MALE CREWMAN
Warp successful.

[Captain Max turns around as the door behind him opens. A woman stands there proudly in her uniform. He swivels his chair back to the front.]

CAPTAIN MAX
Lieutenant Chloe, you’re back.

LIEUTENANT CHLOE
And so is my Thorian blaster.

[Lt. Chloe raises a weapon.]

No!

[Captain Max lurches forward in his chair as the weapon beeps.]

CAPTAIN MAX
Why?

LIEUTENANT CHLOE
I’m with the Creavers now.

[Captain Max collapses onto the floor while the crewmen stare at her with open mouths.]

LIEUTENANT CHLOE
And this ship…is under my command.

[Lt. Chloe sits in the captain’s chair. The lights come on with a beeping noise and the crew shouts and claps in celebration. Lt. Chloe smiles in excitement.]

MALE CREWMAN
That was so freakin’ cool.

[Captain Max stands up.]

CAPTAIN MAX
Thank you for serving under me today on the Nebula Nine Fan Experience. Please return to the dressing rooms and leave your uniforms with the attendant. And may fortune…guide your journey.

[Lt. Chloe sighs in awe and the “crew” applauds before heading out.]

MALE CREWMAN
After you.

CREW WOMAN
Check out the oracle pod.

[The pod opens with a beep and a whoosh, and the crewmen inspect the woman.]

CREW WOMAN
Man, the oracle looks so real.

CREWMAN
I think she is real. And I think she’s dead.

[02:09, INT. SUPERNOVACON - DAY]
[Posters for the Storm Season comic are on display as Castle signs his comic book for Jonathan Frakes, who’s wearing an “I <3 Richard Castle” T-shirt.]

CASTLE
And here you go.

[Castle hands the comic back Frakes and shakes hands with him.]

JONATHAN FRAKES
Thanks. I’m your number one fan.

CASTLE
Thanks for coming.

[Castle watches Frakes leave and mutters to himself.]

CASTLE
How far they fall.

[He looks back at his stack of books.]

CASTLE
All right, where do you want it?

BECKETT (breathy voice)
Could you sign my chests?

[Castle’s head snaps up with wide eyes.]

BECKET
Wow. That actually got your attention.

CASTLE
What are you doing here?

BECKETT
You’d know if you’d answer your phone.

CASTLE
Listen, if you want your very own signed copy of Storm Season, I’d be happy to arrange a private signing.

BECKETT
Cap your pen, Castle. There’s been a murder here.

CASTLE
Here at SupernovaCon?

BECKETT
Mm-hmm.

CASTLE
Shiny.

[02:51, Beckett and Castle walk through the convention together.]

CASTLE
You gotta admit, this is a genius place to commit a murder. I mean, you don a costume, strike down your intended target, and then melt into the crowd unseen.

BECKETT
You sound like you’ve actually thought about this, Castle.

CASTLE
Ah, I used to come here a lot. Alexis and I would come here every year and dress up. You should’ve seen her, like a little pint-sized Princess Leia.

BECKETT
And you were?

CASTLE
Oh, Darth Vader, of course. So, who is our victim? Did Doc Oc finally catch up with Spider-Man?

BECKETT
Think more TV starship.

CASTLE
Oh! Um, Borg attack.

BECKETT
Mnh-mnh.

CASTLE
Cylon skin job? Please say Number Six.

BECKETT
Nope. Nebula Nine.

CASTLE
Really?

BECKETT
Mm-hmm.

CASTLE
I’m sorry. How is Nebula Nine worthy of all this? I mean, they were canceled over a decade ago after twelve episodes, which was twelve episodes too many.

[Beckett looks disappointed.]

BECKETT
I thought you would be a fan.

CASTLE
I’m a fan of good sci-fi. Star Trek, Battlestar, that Joss Whedon show. But Nebula Nine? No, no. It’s all phony melodrama and lifeless acting.

--
[03:43, INT. NEBULA NINE – DAY]
[The door hisses open as Beckett and Castle enter.]

BECKETT (whisper)
Wow.

[Beckett smiles in awe at the set.]

CASTLE
Okay, this is a cool ship. The show is still lame, but this is a cool ship.

[Esposito walks up to them.]

ESPOSITO
Yo.

BECKETT
Hey. So, who’s our vic?

ESPOSITO
Anabelle Collins. She’s, uh, 28. Looks like she was killed and then stashed in that pod. She’s the one who put together this whole Nebula Nine Fan Experience re-enactment thing.

CASTLE
An impressive if misguided effort.

ESPOSITO
With you, bro.

[Beckett tilts her head as if to say, “Come on, you too?”]

ESPOSITO
Give me Blade Runner - a bleak, dystopian future with sexy replicants. Right?

[Esposito chuckles and Castle bumps fists with Castle.]

ESPOSITO
How about you, Beckett? What do you—?

[Esposito stops when he sees Beckett’s annoyed expression.]

BECKETT
Have you found next of kin?

ESPOSITO
Actually, I’m on my way to do that.

[Esposito slides past them out the door. Castle looks at the room.]

CASTLE
Perlmutter, good to see you.

PERLMUTTER
Ah, if only the feeling were mutual.

BECKETT
So, when was she killed?

PERLMUTTER
Well, based on liver temp last night between 10:00 and 11:00 PM. The bigger issue is how she was killed.

[Perlmutter pulls out a magnifying glass.]

PERLMUTTER
Now I believe death came by way of this rather fascinating small-diameter puncture to her heart.

CASTLE
Stab wound.

PERLMUTTER (scoffs)
Oh, Castle, think. How would that explain the first-degree burns on the skin around the wound?

CASTLE
That could be powder burns from a close-range gunshot.

PERLMUTTER
Yeah, but the burns should have gunpowder stippling, particulates seared into the flesh. Uh, not only that, there would be blood spatter.

BECKETT
So what caused the wound?

PERLMUTTER
No clue. Never seen anything quite like it. I should know more once I get her on the slab.

[The M.E.s take the body away. Ryan enters.]

RYAN
Hey. So, I just finished taking witnesses’ statements. Uh, none of these folks knew the victim or were here during the time of death.

BECKETT
Yeah, we’re gonna have to find witnesses that were.

CASTLE
Someone must have seen the killer entering or leaving the ship last night.

RYAN
Yeah, but how would we locate them? There’s thousands of people here.

BECKETT
You know what? You could leave a message on the Nebula Nine fansite asking for anyone that was here between ten and eleven last night and just let them know that you’re gonna meet them at the front of the ship.

RYAN
Nebula Nine fan site?

BECKETT
Yeah. I understand that they have a very loyal fan…

[Beckett’s distracted as Captain Max walks around the corner in his uniform.]

BECKETT
Fan base.

[Beckett’s jaw drops.]

BECKETT
Is that… ?

RYAN
Gabriel Winters, A.K.A. the real Captain Max Rennard. He knew the victim.

BECKETT
And?

RYAN
Oh, I tried to talk to him, but he said he needed a minute to “Must upon the fragile nature of human life.”

BECKETT
Well, his minute is up.

[Beckett walks up to Captain Max eagerly.]

BECKETT
Hi. Um… Mr. Winters, I’m, uh, Detective Kate Beckett and—

[Beckett turns to introduce Castle, but Winters is in his own universe.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I’m devastated…ravaged by sorrow. I’m reminded of the moment when First Officer Tate was sucked into that wormhole in episode six.

CASTLE
Except in this case, someone actually died.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Yeah.

BECKETT
Now, I understand that you knew Anabelle. Do you have any idea who could’ve done this to her?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
No idea. Anabelle was spectacular in every way. When Nebula Nine was canceled – unjustly, I might add –

[Beckett hold in her fangirlie smile, Castle looks dubious.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
She kept interest in the show alive. How will I go on without her?

CASTLE
Go on living?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Go on doing the fan experience.

[Gabriel pats Castle’s arm and begins meandering around the set.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
She contacted me a few months ago, asked me to be a part of this. I was thrilled to give back to the Nebula Nine community.

BECKETT
When was the last time you saw her?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX (sigh)
About nine o’clock last night, after the fan experience ended. Then I went back to my hotel, stayed in for the night. Last time I saw Anabelle, she was alone on the bridge.

[Winters makes a popping noise with his lips.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
And may fortune…guide her journey.

[Beckett makes an awkward smile.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
But the show must go on.

[Castle opens his mouth at Winters’ lack of true loss. ]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
When do you think we can get this back up and running? Soon? Ish?

[Beckett’s smile drops.]

BECKETT
We’ll let you know. In the meantime, did you know any of Anabelle’s family members?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Nah. But her friends Audrey and Davis run the Nebula Nine booth down on the floor.

[Beckett and Castle stare at Winters as he leans forward and pats them on the arm.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Dismissed.

[Beckett is clearly disillusioned by her fan experience.]

--
[07:20, INT. SUPERNOVACON – DAY]
[Castle and Beckett interview two con-goers with Nebula 9 shirts on. The man has a comforting arm around the woman's shoulders.]

AUDREY O'NEILL
It's just so awful. She's been my best friend since high school. She introduced me to Davis. She's the reason we're together.

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
Yeah, we bonded over </i>Nebula Nine</i>. We all loved the show. So...when Anabelle started the fan club, we helped out, and it just kind of took off from there.

CASTLE
Did you notice any unusual behavior lately?

AUDREY O'NEILL
I saw her yesterday morning, and she seemed really upset.

BECKETT
About what?

AUDREY O'NEILL
I don't know. All she said was that someone she had trusted had betrayed her.

CASTLE
Any idea who? Was she involved with anyone?

AUDREY O'NEILL
Not that I know of.

BECKETT
Did Anabelle have any enemies?

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
There were those fans, the ones that sent all the threats.

BECKETT
What threats?

AUDREY O'NEILL
After the fan club took off, Anabelle bought the rights to the show for practically nothing and started making new Nebula Nine webisodes starring the three of us. you know, picking up where the show left off, like as a tribute.

[Beckett smiles.]

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
Not everyone saw it that way. Anabelle got some pretty ugly e-mails.

CASTLE
How ugly?

AUDREY O'NEILL
Some were death threats.

--
[08:18, INT. SUPERNOVACON - DAY]

CASTLE
Boy, Davis wasn't kidding about these e-mails. Listen to this, "Your so-called webisodes desecrate the memory of Nebula Nine and you should pay the ultimate price."

BECKETT
I don't know, Castle. Do you honestly believe that Anabelle was killed by an angry Nebula Nine fan?

CASTLE
I think if you like Nebula Nine, you're crazy enough to kill, yeah.

BECKETT (offended)
Whoa.

[They stop walking and face each other.]

BECKETT
Why are you so down on the show?

CASTLE
Uh, okay, well, let's see, because it's cheesy, it ignores the laws of physics...

[Beckett rolls her eyes. Beckett's cell phone chirps.]

CASTLE
And good storytelling. Not to mention--

BECKETT
Okay, I got it.

[Beckett's phone chirps.]

BECKETT
It's Perlmutter. He's got something for us.

CASTLE
Mm.

[They turn to leave.]

HENRY BARNETT
Kate Beckett?!

[They turn around to see a man dressed in a Nebula Nine uniform.]

HENRY BARNETT
K-Bex!

[Beckett gasps. Castle's eyes widen and his expression freezes shock.]

HENRY BARNETT
I knew it was you!

[The man rushes forward eagerly and gives her a big hug.]

BECKETT (gasp)
Oh, Henry Barnett. Wow. It's been...years.

HENRY BARNETT
Since our first semester at Stanford.

CASTLE
K-Bex?

BECKETT
Um...

[Castle stares at Beckett with a curious inquiring look and she hesitates.]

BECKETT
I, uh, I...do you think we could catch up later. I'm actually here for work.

HENRY BARNETT
Oh, well, that explains why you aren't wearing your Nebula Nine outfit.

CASTLE
You, uh...you have a Nebula Nine outfit?

[Beckett gives Castle a look.]

HENRY BARNETT
Oh, she had a few. She was a mega fan. You should've seen her as Lieutenant Chloe.

[Beckett's lips are pressed together in a kind of grimace. Castle looks at Beckett with amused surprise.]

HENRY BARNETT
Oh, wait. You can.

[Henry starts to open a folder he has with him. Castle expression turns to glee, Beckett's to horror.]

HENRY BARNETT
Remember that photo we all took?

[Henry holds it up.]

HENRY BARNETT
I brought it to get it signed.

CASTLE
May I?

[Henry turns it around for Castle to see. Beckett is mortified.]

HENRY BARNETT
It's us from back in the day.

CASTLE
Ooh.

HENRY BARNETT
Isn't it frakin' awesome?

[Castle nods, pressing his lips together hard to suppress his laughter.]

BECKETT
It's frakin' something. Henry, I need that photo.

[Beckett holds out her hand to take it.]

HENRY BARNETT
What? Why?

[Beckett pulls out her badge.]

BECKETT
It's official NYPD business.

[Henry looks at the badge with a scared expression.]

BECKETT
Don't make me ask again.

[Henry nods and hands her the photo. Beckett walks away and scared Henry looks at Castle.]

CASTLE (whisper)
Thank you.

[Castle follows Beckett and Henry stares after them.]

--
[09:45, INT. PRECINCT, AUTOPSY HALLWAY - DAY]
[Beckett and Castle walk toward autopsy.]

BECKETT
So I was a Nebula Nine fan. Big deal.

CASTLE
Oh, you were beyond a fan. You dressed up in costume. You.

[Beckett sighs and turns to face him.]

BECKETT
Okay, yes, I was a sci-fi loving, costume-wearing geek, and you know what? Not ashamed of it or of Nebula Nine. Despite what you think, it was an awesome show.

CASTLE
Hmm. I'll tell you what, I'll forgive you your terrible taste if you...

[Beckett purses her lips in victory. Castle glances down at her body.]

CASTLE
Try on that Nebula Nine costume for me.

BECKETT
In your dreams.

CASTLE
Look at my life. (whisper) My dreams come true.

[Beckett scoffs, rolls her eyes, and exits. Castle checks her out as he follows.]

--
[10:17, INT. PRECINCT, AUTOPSY - DAY]
[Beckett and Castle enter as Perlmutter is examining the body.]

CASTLE
Perlmutter.

PERLMUTTER
Detective Beckett.

CASTLE
Perlmutter.

PERLMUTTER
And non-detective Castle.

[Castle furrows his eyebrows at the barb.]

BECKETT
So, do you have a cause of death?

PERLMUTTER
It was a burn, a burn that penetrated tissue, muscle, and bone, leaving this perfectly cylindrical hole.

BECKETT
Well, what kind of burn does that?

PERLMUTTER
Well, one created by high levels of infrared radiation.

[Castle raises his eyebrows.]

PERLMUTTER
The--the blood vessels were cauterized from the intense heat.

BECKETT
Are you saying--?

CASTLE
She was killed by a phaser?

[Perlmutter hesitates to affirm that conclusion.]

PERLMUTTER
Well, as much as it pains me, Mr. Castle is...marginally correct.

[Castle is getting really excited.]

PERLMUTTER
She was killed by a high-intensity laser beam.

[Beckett looks at Castle, her mouth dropped open in shock.]

CASTLE
A real sci-fi murder...(excited whisper) at a sci-fi convention. This keeps getting better.

[OPENING TITLES]

--
ACT TWO
[11:06, INT. PRECINCT, BULLPEN - DAY]

BECKETT
How is it possible that she's killed by a laser?

CASTLE
Easy. Someone shot her with a laser gun.

BECKETT
Real ones don't exist, Castle.

CASTLE
Actually, they do. There is an advanced tactical laser that could melt a hold in a tank from five miles away.

BECKETT
Read about it. It's as big as a truck.

CASTLE
Yes, well, obviously someone has constructed a portable hand-held version.

BECKETT
Like who?

CASTLE
Well, let's go back to the e-mails of the crazed Nebula Nine fans. And when I say "Crazed fans," I'm--I'm not referring to you. You...are a mega fan.

BECKETT
Nice one coming from the guy with a life-size Boba Fett in his bathroom.

CASTLE
Point taken. Anyway...perhaps one of these fans, enraged by Anabelle's blasphemous webisodes, somehow fashioned a functioning Thorian blaster and, in an act of divine retribution, said killer shot Anabelle with the very weapon featured on Nebula Nine.

BECKETT
Interesting theory, but we have interviewed all of those crazed fans, and they all have alibis.

CASTLE
Okay, well, then maybe it wasn't a crazed fan. (inhales deeply) But...

CASTLE (imitating William Shatner's Captain Kirk)
The fact is, someone did zap Anabelle with some kind of...laser blaster.

BECKETT
I will talk to ATF and see if they've heard of anyone possessing a...

[Beckett hesitates to name the weapon.]

CASTLE (imitating William Shatner's Captain Kirk)
Laser blaster.

BECKETT
A functional laser weapon. In the meantime, hopefully, Ryan and Esposito have found some witnesses by posting on the fan site.

--
[12:33, INT. SUPERNOVACON, NEBULA NINE SET - DAY]
[Ryan shows a Nebula Nine fan a photo of the victim on his cell phone.]

RYAN
Her name is Anabelle Collins. Did you see her in this area between 10:00 and 11:00 PM last night?

[The fan, wearing some sort of snow-beast alien costume speaks in a foreign language.]

RYAN
Um...let me repeat the question.

--
[12:44, INT. SUPERNOVACON - DAY]
[Esposito interviews a beautiful woman who is wearing nothing but a strategic set of leaves.]

ESPOSITO
First of all, ma'am, I must ask you, uh...how are you keeping those leaves on there like that?

NEBULA NINE EVE
Why don't you pull on one and find out?

--
[12:54, INT. SUPERNOVACON, NEBULA NINE SET - DAY]

RYAN
Did you see her or not?

[The alien behind the snow beast steps forward.]

NEBULA NINE ALIEN
He only speaks Mersatonian.

RYAN
Well, maybe you could translate for me.

NEBULA NINE ALIEN
I'm not really that fluent.

RYAN
Next.

--
[13:06, INT. SUPERNOVACON - DAY]

ESPOSITO
Did you see her here last night between ten and eleven?

NEBULA NINE EVE
Nope.

ESPOSITO
Okay.

NEBULA NINE EVE
But...

[Eve pulls off a set of the leaves.]

NEBULA NINE EVE
If there's anything else I can do for you...

[Eve writes on the leaves and hands it to Esposito.]

NEBULA NINE EVE
Here's my number. Call me.

[Eve walks off with a sultry smile and Esposito is slightly breathless.]

ESPOSITO
You took my pen.

--
[13:23, INT. SUPERNOVACON, NEBULA NINE SET - DAY]
[A woman with a girlie anime outfit and dark eye shadow walks up.]

RYAN
Let me begin by asking if you speak English or not.

ANIME GIRL
Obvi.

RYAN
Okay. Did you see this woman between 10:00 and 11:00 PM last night

ANIME GIRL
Yeah.

RYAN
You did?

ANIME GIRL
Yeah. My friends and I were totes pissed at her because she told us that the fan experience was closed, and then two seconds later, she brought someone inside here.

RYAN
Could you describe who she was with?

ANIME GIRL
I can do lots better. I can tell you her name.

--
[13:47, INT. PRECINCT, BULLPEN - DAY]
[Beckett puts a photo of the woman on the murder board.]

CASTLE
Stephanie Frye? The actress who played your personal hero, Lieutenant Chloe, in the original Nebula Nine series?

BECKETT
A witness saw Anabelle and Stephanie walk on to the spaceship set around 9:45.

CASTLE
Well, did she see either one of them after that?

BECKETT
No.

CASTLE
Stephanie's a big movie star now. She's not even involved with Nebula Nine. What possible motive could she have?

BECKETT
All I know is that she was one of the last people to see Anabelle alive, so I have to talk to her.

--
[14:18, INT. SUPERNOVACON - DAY]
[Beckett and Castle talk to Stephanie Frye at her Agent Stark movie booth.]

STEPHANIE FRYE
I'm sad to hear about Anabelle. I've met her a few times at conventions like this. She seemed lovely.

BECKETT
We have a witness that saw you and Anabelle go into the ship just before she died.

STEPHANIE FRYE
You don't think--

CASTLE
BECKETT
We're just trying to figure out what happened.

STEPHANIE FRYE
Nothing happened. We talked. It was a quick conversation. I had to be on the red carpet at ten.

CASTLE
What did you talk about?

STEPHANIE FRYE
Ugh. She asked if I'd be part of this weekend's Nebula Nine fan experience.

BECKETT
Yeah, but you'd distanced yourself from the show.

[Castle raises his eyebrows. Beckett looks at him nervously.]

BECKETT
Didn't you? I...heard that you did.

STEPHANIE FRYE
I mean, don't get me wrong, playing Lieutenant Chloe was my big break, but... (laughs) Nebula Nine? Not exactly a career launcher.

[Beckett is uncomfortable.]

CASTLE (laughs)
I know.

[Beckett frowns in disappointed disgust.]

STEPHANIE FRYE
Now that I'm finally being taken seriously as an actress, I couldn't go back. It would harm my image. So, I told Anabelle no. She understood.

CASTLE
Well, I'm not sure I do. Why would she even ask if she knew you'd refuse?

STEPHANIE FRYE
She was desperate. She said she'd have to shut it down if she didn't have an original cast member.

BECKETT
Yeah, but what about Captain Max? Gabriel, uh, Winters...she had his, didn't she?

STEPHANIE FRYE
Gabriel is a complicated guy. I mean, she didn't go into detail, but she was having problems with him.

--
[15:35, INT. SUPERNOVACON/PRECINCT, CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY]
[Beckett and Castle talk to Ryan on speaker phone.]

RYAN (on speaker)
She was having problems with him all right. Word is that Gabriel was showing up late to the fan experience, and drunk.

BECKETT (on speaker)
Captain Max was drunk?

RYAN (on speaker)
Among other transgressions. He was actually a no-show to the Nebula Nine yesterday, and Anabelle had to rouse him from his hotel room, where he was passed out naked with two Lieutenant Chloes.

CASTLE (on speaker)
I think fortune was definitely guiding his journey.

BECKETT (on speaker)
Just because he exhibited some bad behavior doesn't mean that that was motive for murder.

ESPOSITO (on speaker)
Well, except that I just spoke to Gabriel's agent. Anabelle called her yesterday, threatening to fire him.

BECKETT (on speaker)
And so he killed her?

ESPOSITO (on speaker)
Well, here's the thing, the guy is a washed up actor. He's barely worked since the show was canceled. He does, what, twenty fan experiences a day at five-hundred bucks a shot? If Anabelle took that away from him, he'd have nothing.

BECKETT (on speaker)
Okay, guys. Thanks.

[Beckett hangs up.]

CASTLE
Anabelle said she was betrayed by someone she trusted. Maybe that was Captain Max.

[Three girls in skimpy outfits walk by.]

CASTLE
Oh, my god! (high-pitched voice) Alexis?!

[Alexis and her two friends in skimpy outfits turn around.]

ALEXIS
Dad? What are you doing here?

CASTLE
What are you doing here dressed like that?

ALEXIS
We're havacura. It's a tribe of female assassins who--

CASTLE
Don't wear clothes?

ALEXIS
You're overreacting. And you're embarrassing me.

CASTLE
Oh, I'm embarrassing you? I'm the one who's dressed.

[Castle tries to put his coat on Alexis.]

ALEXIS
Dad!

[Beckett grabs Castle and pulls him away.]

BECKETT
Castle, come on. Let's go.

CASTLE
Are you kidding me? Do you see what she's wearing?

[Alexis leaves with her friends.]

BECKETT
Yeah, it's not that bad.

[Beckett continues leading Castle away.]

CASTLE
Not that bad? How am I gonna unsee that?

--
[16:52, INT. SUPERNOVACON, NEBULA NINE FAN EXPERIENCE - DAY]
[Gabriel Winters runs through another fan experience show.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Oracle… chances for crew survival if we engage?

ORACLE (electronic female voice)
Our weapons systems are disabled. The alien vessel has superior firepower. Chances of survival - point one percent.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
That's a rosy prediction.

[The door opens and Beckett and Castle enter.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
We will live to fight...Ah, we have visitors...wearing twenty-first century garb. Do you come in peace...or is this more Creaver trickery?

[Beckett holds up her badge.]

BECKETT
NYPD. Sorry, folks, we're gonna have to cut this short. Everyone out.

[The fan crewmembers exit.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
This is outrageous. I included you in the Nebula Nine fan experience, and you ruined it.

BECKETT
Mr. Winters, where were you last night between ten and eleven? And don't say your hotel room.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
You can't be insinuating I had something to do with Anabelle's death.

[Beckett and Castle look at each other and Beckett flicks her eyes down at the Thorian blaster on Winter's hip.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I told you everything I know.

CASTLE
Then you wouldn't mind relinquishing your weapon.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
This Thorian blaster was given to me by the Vice Chancellor of Loron when I helped save the queen -

CASTLE
Oh, for the love of Pete.

[Castle takes the blaster, points it at a consol and shoots. Light flashes and a hole is blasted through the consol.]

CASTLE (awed whisper)
"Zap," said the lady.

[Winters looks at the blaster in surprise.]

CASTLE (whisper)
You are so busted.

--
ACT THREE
[18:12, INT. PRECINCT, OBSERVATION - DAY]
[Esposito enters as Beckett and Castle watch Winters on the other side of the glass.]

ESPOSITO
Hey. So, our ballistics guys got together with...

[Esposito is distracted by Winters making weird faces in the one-way glass.]

Perlmutter and tested the blaster. It's definitely our murder weapon.

BECKETT
I want to build an iron-clad case against this guy. Have tech look at the gun, find out where it came from.

ESPOSITO
As you wish.

[Esposito exits. Winters continues checking himself out in the one-way glass.]

CASTLE
Well...I can see how Anabelle felt betrayed. Some guys have no business commanding a spaceship.

BECKETT
Just goes to show you, sometimes people aren't what they appear to be.

CASTLE
For Alexis's sake, I hope you're right, given what she was wearing.

BECKETT
Castle, she is a full-grown woman.

CASTLE
Who, as we speak, is being ogled by thousands of sweaty, lecherous fan boys. It's just so...wrong.

BECKETT
Can I just point out the fact that the costume that she was wearing is not so different from the one that you are asking me to wear?

CASTLE
Don't say that!

[Beckett struts out.]

CASTLE
That...is confusing and disturbing.

--
[19:05, INT. PRECINCT, INTERROGATION - DAY]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Look, I have no idea where that blaster came from.

BECKETT
That's funny, since it was on your hip.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I grabbed it off the props table when I suited up, just like I always do. I didn't know it was real. Wait. You guys think I killed her and then kept the murder weapon on me? What kind of idiot does that?

[Castle quirks his eyebrows.]

BECKETT
Why didn't you tell us that you were having problems with Anabelle?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I played a lawyer in a well-regarded film that didn't come out. I know about the legal system. That would've just made me look guilty.

CASTLE
As opposed to how you look now?

[Winter's eyebrows crinkle in confusion.]

BECKETT
Look, here's what I think - Anabelle got tired of your drunken carousing and threatened to fire you from the only job that you had, so you killed her.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
None of that is true. Except maybe the carousing part.

BECKETT
So she didn't threaten to fire you?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Yes, sure, all the time. But she'd never go through with it. I'm the face of Nebula Nine. I'm the reason all those lunatics line up for days outside of the conventions.

[Beckett swallows.]

CASTLE
Yes, well, perhaps no they'll line up outside Sing Sing.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Anabelle and I clashed on certain...lifestyle choices. But we had an understanding.

[Beckett gives Winters a dubious look.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I even got her and her boyfriend into the opening night party on Wednesday.

BECKETT
Nice try. She didn't have a boyfriend.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
She told me she did.

BECKETT
Look, the fact is, you had means, motive, and opportunity. And we checked with your hotel. You left at 9:45 p.m. and returned at eleven. that's the exact time window of Anabelle's murder.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I was busy handling a personal issue that I would rather not discuss.

BECKETT
You are facing a murder charge.

CASTLE
Okay, look, we already know about the threesome with the Lieutenant Chloes.

[Castle and Winters both smirk.]

CASTLE
How bad can it be?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Well, let's just say, my, uh...weakness for fleeting romance left me with a burning desire to see my doctor last night.

CASTLE
And it just got worse.

[Beckett covers her mouth like she's trying not to vomit.]

--
[20:54, INT. PRECINCT, BULLPEN - DAY]
[Ryan enters as Beckett finishes writing on the murder board.]

RYAN
So, the doctor confirms his alibi. He was dosing Gabriel with antibiotics during our time-of-death window.

BECKETT (sigh)
Gabriel said that Anabelle went to the party with her boyfriend, but there's no evidence that she was in a relationship. There's nothing in her e-mails, phone calls, or texts.

RYAN
And the very next day, she said someone had betrayed her trust. Maybe she meant the secret boyfriend.

BECKETT
Whoever he is, he never came forward, and that is suspicious.

[Esposito enters.]

ESPOSITO
Yo. Our tech guys caught a break. They took apart the gun and they traced the serial number on one of the components. The manufacturer shipped it to an address in the Bronx.

[Esposito hands the info to Beckett.]

BECKETT
All right, Castle and I will go check this out. You guys go to the convention center bar where the party was being held and see if you can ID who Anabelle was with.

ESPOSITO
Right on.

RYAN
All right.

--
[21:37, INT. SUPERNOVACON BAR - DAY]

FAN
Better with you, man. I'm telling you.

[Ryan and Esposito enter the bar full of costumed people.]

RYAN
This is like the Halloween from hell.

ESPOSITO
Oh, yeah, this is probably too lowbrow for you, huh? You're probably into that boring-ass intellectual kind of sci-fi, like Gattaca or 2001. The monolith-- what the hell was that?

RYAN
Don't ask me. No, no, swords and sorcery, that's more my thing, like, uh, Lord of the Rings .

[Esposito looks Ryan over.]

ESPOSITO
Yeah, I could probably see you as an elf. Or a hobbit.

[Ryan looks at Esposito, who walks on.]

--
[LATER]
[The bartender looks at a photo of Anabelle.]

BARTENDER
Yeah. Served her and her date in a private room. Looked pretty cozy, but then, uh, later she was alone at the bar, crying her eyes out.

ESPOSITO
This date of hers, can you describe him?

BARTENDER
Sure can. Looked like that.

[Esposito turns around and sees someone in a masked costume.]

ESPOSITO
A Creaver?

RYAN
A who?

ESPOSITO
the evil alien race from Nebula Nine. Nasty creatures. They'll eat your face off while you're still alive and then serve your organs to their young.

RYAN
Good to know. (to the bartender) Is that all?

[The bartender picks up something from the counter.]

BARTENDER
Had one of these purple V.I.P. badges. Pretty exclusive. Can't be more than a few hundred of them.

--
[22:43, EXT. STREET - DAY]
[Castle reads a sign on a pull-down storefront gate.]

CASTLE
"Danger. Do not enter." Well, that is just the sort of sign you'd expect to see on the lair of an evil laser-gun-making genius.

[Castle knocks on the gate. No answer. The gate is slightly open, so Castle crouches down and tries to see inside. He straightens up.]

CASTLE
It's pitch black inside, but the door is partially open. I would say that's an invitation, wouldn't you?

[Becket draws her gun.]

BECKETT
Just in case it isn't.

[Beckett and Castle duck under the gate.]

BECKETT
NYPD. Anyone here?

[The door closes behind them.]

CASTLE
Perhaps we should have heeded that very wise sign.

[Beckett tries to open the gate, but it just rattles. An alarm starts going off. Lasers turn on and focus in on the two intruders, pointing at their foreheads.]

BENJAMIN DONNELLY (amplified)
Raise your hands!

[Castle raises his hands.]

BENJAMIN DONNELLY (amplified)
Prepare to die.

[Beckett and Castle stand nervously.]

--
ACT FOUR
[23:41, INT. LASER GENIUS'S LAIR - DAY]
[Beckett pulls out her badge.]

BECKETT
NYPD. Put down your weapons.

[The lasers power down and the lights turn on. A man enters wearing a t-shirt that reads "Han shot first."]

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Did you see that? It worked perfectly. It's modeled on the targeting system of a Machbarian star destroyer.

CASTLE
So I take it we're not gonna die.

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
From remote-controlled laser pointers? No. But it's perfect to scare away intruders. You shoulda seen the UPS guy. He almost wet himself.

BECKETT
Excuse me, Mister...

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Donnelly. Benjamin Donnelly, purveyor of sci-fi hardware for the discriminating enthusiast. So, what can I interest you in? A Klingon batliff perhaps? A cylon laser pistol? A double-bladed lightsaber?

CASTLE
You have a double-bladed lightsaber?

BECKETT
Actually, we're looking for a Thorian blaster.

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Oh. (chuckles) The woman has taste.

[Donnelly opens a box.]

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Plasma pistol with a tri-Skellium core...

[Donnelly takes the blaster out of the box.]

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Accurate down to the last detail.

CASTLE
Including its ability to kill?

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Excuse me?

BECKETT
We're investigating a murder, and we traced the weapon back to you.

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
I created this for entertainment use only. I never intended for it to hurt anybody. Thorian blasters don't kill. People do. I can't be responsible once they leave my shop.

CASTLE
Yes, well, that is an amazing piece of weaponry...

[Beckett looks at Castle.]

CASTLE
That I never want to fire again.

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Wait. You fired it?

CASTLE
Oh, yeah.

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Were you wearing proper protection?

CASTLE
What?

[Castle looks down quickly.]

CASTLE
N-no. Why? Wh-what--what kind of protection?

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
You'll be fine.

[Castle is less than reassured.]

BECKETT
How many of those have you sold?

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
I only made two that were fully functional. One in the case here. The other, I sold to a collector Wednesday night.

BECKETT
Do you have a name?

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Sam? Seth? Simon? Something essey.

BECKETT
You think you could describe him?

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
No. He was in costume.

BECKETT
Let me guess. Creaver?

BENJAMIN DONNELLY
Yeah. He drove away in a white SUV, if that helps. I didn't get the numbers, but they were North Carolina plates. "First In Flight."

[Castle is still distracted.]

CASTLE
What kind of protection?

--
[26:00, INT. PRECINCT, BULLPEN - EVENING]
[Castle is distracted, checking for any abnormality in his fingers.]

BECKETT
So, Ryan and Esposito are running down everyone that was issued a purple pass to see if they can ID our Creaver. We should have something by tomorrow morning. I mean, it's just like you said, Castle. That costume allowed our killer to strike unseen. And of course he's gonna be a Creaver. I mean, they're the sworn enemies of the Nebula Nine. crew.

[Beckett sees Castle feeling his face.]

BECKETT
Castle?

[He looks up and she raises her eyebrows.]

CASTLE
Do I look different to you?

BECKETT
No. Why?

CASTLE
Just, I feel so tingly. Something's wrong. I'm beginning to mutate like the Hulk or the Thing. Or worse, the Leader. What would happen to my hair?

BECKETT
I prefer Dr. Manhattan.

[Castle does a double take.]

BECKETT
The blue skin - brings out your blue eyes.

[Beckett texts on her phone as she leaves and Castle follows.]

CASTLE
This isn't funny. What if firing that blaster made me infertile?

BECKETT
You want more kids?

CASTLE
Well, I'd like the option.

[Beckett finishes texting.]

BECKETT
Yeah, well, I think you're gonna be fine, Castle.

CASTLE
All the same, I should decontaminate. Take a silkwood shower.

[They step in the elevator and the doors close.]

--
[26:54, INT. CASTLE LOFT - EVENING]
[Alexis is waiting for Castle as he enters, still looking at his hands.]

CASTLE
Alexis. What are you doing here?

ALEXIS
I thought maybe, after what happened, that you'd want to talk about it.

CASTLE
No. Me? No. You?

ALEXIS
No.

[They stand there for a moment, then turn in opposite directions and exit without a word.]

--
[27:19, INT. PRECINCT, BULLPEN - MORNING]
[Beckett looks at her Nebula Nine photo with a smile.]

ESPOSITO
Yo.

[Beckett is snapped out of her reverie and hides the photo quickly.]

ESPOSITO
Hey, so we found out that valet parking comes with those purple passes, and there was only one attendee that had a white SUV with North Caroline plates. Simon Westport. He was on 295 heading south when state troopers pulled him over. He had a Creaver outfit in his trunk.

--
[27:42, INT. PRECINT, INTERVIEW ROOM - DAY]

BECKETT
Do you recognize this, Simon?

[Beckett holds up a Thorian blaster in an evidence bag.]

SIMON WESTPORT
It's a Thorian blaster.

BECKETT
You know what else it is? It's the gun that killed Anabelle Collins.

ESPOSITO
Bought by a guy dressed as a Creaver, who was seen with the victim before she died.

SIMON WESTPORT
This is not what it looks like. I bought that for her as a gift.

BECKETT
You bought her a live-fire collectible laser gun as a gift?

SIMON WESTPORT
I did not kill her. I didn't even know she was dead till the police told me.

BECKETT
What was your relationship to the victim?

SIMON WESTPORT
Uh...I met Anabelle at Supernovacon like, five years ago. We just clicked.

[Beckett gives him a dark look.]

SIMON WESTPORT (sigh)
Look, at the con, you can be anyone you want to be for a few days. So, we'd hook up. It was a "same time next year" kind of thing.

ESPOSITO
So how does that square with you leaving her at the bar crying?

SIMON WESTPORT
Okay, something did happen at the party that night, but not with me. I gave her the blaster. She was thrilled. I left to take a phone call. I come back, and there's a guy hassling her.

BECKETT
About what?

SIMON WESTPORT
I don't know, but he tried to kiss her. She slapped him in the face. By the time I got to her, he had already taken off. But she's all upset about it. She tells me she needs space. So she takes the blaster and leaves. So, I track her down the next day to see if she's okay, and out of nowhere she says that she's done with Supernovacon and she's done with me. So I checked out of my hotel and I left.

BECKETT
Can you describe this guy?

SIMON WESTPORT
Yeah. He's the guy she did those webisodes with - Davis.

--
[29:00, INT. PRECINCT, HALLWAY - DAY]

ESPOSITO
So sounds like whatever happened between Davis and Anabelle really did a number on her. All of a sudden, she was ready to ditch Simon and the convention.

BECKETT
We talked to Davis. He never mentioned any incident.

ESPOSITO
Which means he's hiding something.

BECKETT
Either that or he killed her.

[The elevator opens in front of them with a ding and Castle is there, looking anxious.]

CASTLE
Hey. Tell me, you guys, do you think my hair is thinning?

[Esposito looks.]

BECKETT
You're not losing your hair, Castle.

CASTLE
Okay, so if I wake up bald tomorrow, you'll still be attracted to me?

[Beckett hesitates.]

CASTLE
Oh, my god. You wouldn't.

[Beckett hurries into the elevator.]

BECKETT
I didn't say that.

CASTLE
No, but you were thinking it. I can see it in your...

[Castle catches Esposito eyeing the back of his head for a bald spot.]

ESPOSITO
With that pumpkin head? Dude.

[Esposito gets in the elevator and the door closes, leaving Castle dumbstruck.]

--
ACT FIVE
[29:35, INT. PRECINCT, INTERROGATION - DAY]

BECKETT
Davis, what was your relationship with Anabelle Collins?

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
I told you before. We were friends.

CASTLE
Was friendship enough, or did you want more?

BECKETT
Witnesses saw you with Anabelle at the opening night party. It sounds like she didn't respond too well to your advances.

CASTLE
And why would she? I mean, you were already in a relationship with her best friend.

BECKETT
Why would you risk it all by making a pass at her?

CASTLE
Only one reason. Love. But you were with Audrey.

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
I was. I am. But it was always Anabelle.

BECKETT
Why don't you tell us what happened?

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
That night, I'd had a few drinks, and I saw her with that...Creaver at the party. And they were all over each other. And it killed me. I couldn't take it anymore. I had to tell her how I really felt, and she... (sigh) She said terrible things. She said that I had ruined everything, that she was gonna have to tell Audrey. And...I didn't know what else to do.

BECKETT
Davis, did you kill Anabelle?

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
No. No, I was halfway across the building when it happened at the masquerade ball. You can check. Look...I tried to make things right with her. And I told her I was drunk, and we should just forget about it, but she couldn't. She said it was one thing to live a fantasy, but she wasn't gonna live a lie...and that this was gonna be our last con.

BECKETT
She was gonna end the fan experience? Not just the fan experience. Everything. She said it was time to move on. She had decided to cash out and sell the rights to Nebula Nine. I mean, they were worthless when she first got 'em, but she...she made the show popular again. They were talking about rebooting the series, maybe even doing a movie.

CASTLE
That would mean some real money.

BECKETT
Davis, who gets the rights now that Anabelle's dead?

DAVIS HAWTHORNE
They go to Audrey. Why?

--
[31:27, INT. PRECINCT, BULLPEN - DAY]
[Beckett hangs up the phone.]

BECKETT
So Davis's alibi checks out. Sort of.

CASTLE
Sort of?

BECKETT
Yeah, organizers confirm that he arrived at the party at 9:30, but everyone was masked. So he could have slipped out at anytime.

[Ryan and Esposito enter.]

RYAN
Hey. So Anabelle was serious about cashing out. She had an offer on the table from EpicScope Productions.

ESPOSITO
She'd been refusing to sell for months, but the day she died, she put in a call saying she was ready to make that deal.

BECKETT
For how much?

RYAN
Two and a half million dollars.

BECKETT
That's motive.

CASTLE
That's madness. Two point five mil for that god-awful show?

RYAN
But now that she's dead, they're gonna have to pay Audrey.

ESPOSITO
And she didn't even wait for the body to get cold. The morning after Anabelle was killed, Audrey put in a call to EpicScope.

[Ryan hands Beckett a document.]

RYAN
They closed the deal today.

--
[32:06, INT. SUPERNOVACON - DAY]

AUDREY O'NEILL
Yeah, I sold the rights. I mean, so what? All this...this is all Anabelle. What's the point in doing it without her?

BECKETT
CASTLE
Except you weren't going to be doing it with her much longer, were you?

AUDREY O'NEILL
I don't know what you mean.

BECKETT
You worked for years helping Anabelle bring Nebula Nine back to life.

CASTLE
If she sold the rights, all this would go away, leaving you with nothing. And you couldn't let her do that, could you?

AUDREY O'NEILL
That is a disgusting thing to say. She was my best friend.

BECKETT
Where were you the night that she was killed?

[Audrey waits before answering.]

AUDREY O'NEILL
I'm not gonna answer any more of your questions.

--
[32:45, INT. SUPERNOVACON, NEBULA NINE SET - DAY]
[Castle sits in the captain's chair.]

CASTLE (imitating Patrick Stewart's Captain Pickard)
Let's make sure that history never forgets the name "Enterprise."

[Beckett smiles as she waits on the phone.]

BECKETT (on cell)
Yeah, okay. Thanks, Ryan.

[Beckett hangs up.]

BECKETT
So Audrey's hotel key card was used at 9:48 p.m. And then it wasn't used again the rest of the night.

CASTLE
Well, she could've slipped out, left her door ajar. That would have given her enough time to get down here.

BECKETT
Yeah, but, Castle, all we have is circumstantial evidence and soft alibis. We've gotta get something more concrete.

[Beckett looks at the set and smiles.]

BECKETT
I can't tell you how many times I have had dreams about being in this very ship.

[Castle stands up?]

CASTLE
Sexy dreams? (Pickard voice) You know, it's never too late to live out your fantasy.

[Castle approaches Beckett and leans on the consol behind her.]

BECKETT
You do realize that this is still a crime scene?

CASTLE
Oh, right. Ew.

BECKETT
Yeah.

[Castle steps away and Beckett walks towards the captain's chair.]

BECKETT
You're right, okay? It was a stupid show. It was cheesy and melodramatic.

[Beckett sits in the chair. Castle is surprised and intrigued by her admission.]

BECKETT
I mean, a handful of academy cadets on a training mission, and suddenly, the earth is destroyed and they're all that's left of humanity? I completely understand why you hated it.

[Castle nods.]

BECKETT
But , Castle, I also understand why people loved it, why Anabelle loved it. It was about leaving home for the first time, about searching for your identity and making a difference. I loved dressing up like Lieutenant Chloe. She didn't care what anybody thought about her, and I kinda did at that time. I mean, she was a scientist and a warrior, and that was all in spite of the way that she looked. It was like I could be anything, and I didn't have to choose. So don't make fun, okay?

CASTLE
Okay.

BECKETT
Besides, it didn't hurt that my legs looked great in her outfit.

CASTLE
Oh, of that I have no dou-- ow!

[Castle touches the consol and pulls back his hand in pain.]

BECKETT
What's wrong?

CASTLE
My hand.

[Castle puts his hand back towards the consol and it's glowing.]

CASTLE
Wha-- wh--? I mean, what does that mean?

BECKETT
That means you just solved our case.

--
ACT SIX
[34:56, INT. SUPERNOVACON, NEBULA NINE SET - DAY]
[Castle and Beckett enter. Winters is sitting in the captain's chair. Davis, Audrey, Simon, and Stephanie Frye are standing nearby.]

BECKETT
Thank you, everyone, for coming in today.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I was under the impression I didn't have a choice.

[Winters begins to stand up.]

CASTLE
You didn't.

[Winters sighs and sits back down.]

SIMON WESTPORT
I don't understand. What are we doing here?

CASTLE
Everyone in this room had a relationship with the victim. Each of you had either motive or opportunity to kill her. Uh, Ms. Frye, would you do me the honor of a little improvisation?

[She chuckles with a smile.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Trust me, that woman needs a script.

STEPHANIE FRYE
I'm happy to help.

CASTLE
Ms. Frye will be playing Anabelle Collins. I will be the killer. Anabelle had the murder weapon on her the night she died. Don't worry, this one's just a toy.

[Castle hands Stephanie Frye a Thorian blaster.]

CASTLE
Now, the killer confronts Anabelle.

[Stephanie strikes a pose.]

CASTLE
Anabelle, presumably to protect herself, drew her blaster.

[Stephanie melodramatically points the blaster at Castle with crazy eyes.]

CASTLE
They struggled for the gun.

[Castle grabs for the gun and faux-wrestles Stephanie for it..]

CASTLE
The killer overpow--

[Castle really struggles to get the blaster. He stops.]

CASTLE
I--I need you to resist just a little less.

STEPHANIE FRYE
Oh.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Told ya.

CASTLE
And...

[They struggle some more and Castle gets the blaster.]

CASTLE
...wrenched free the weapon. Anabelle was slain by her own Thorian blaster. Zap.

[Castle does an offhand shooting motion towards Stephanie, who plays out an dramatic death scene to Castle's surprise.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Overacting much?

STEPHANIE FRYE
Shut up, Gabriel.

CASTLE
At that point, the killer stashed Anabelle's body in the oracle pod, not knowing that by firing the Thorian blaster, they were leaving behind crucial evidence.

BECKETT
The energy emission from the gun left a superficial burn on the killer's skin...

[Castle demonstrates with his glowing hand.]

BECKETT
Which is visible under U.V. light.

CASTLE
Branding out murderer with the mark of Cain. Or, for you Nebula Nine fans, the mark of Claderesh.

BECKETT
Simon, could you step forward, please?

[Simon complies.]

BECKETT
Could you hold out your hands?

[Simon complies and they're clean.]

BECKETT
Thank you.

[Simon steps away.]

BECKETT
Davis.

[Stephanie gets out of the chair near the consol and Davis steps forward and puts out his right hand.]

BECKETT
Your left hand as well.

[Davis puts out his left hand and they're both clean.]

BECKETT
Thank you. Audrey.

[Stephanie moves further away. Audrey steps forward and shows them her hands under the light, rolling her eyes at them.]

BECKETT
Mr. Winters?

[Winters sits for a moment, then exhales deeply and rises from his chair. He puts his hand under the light. It's glowing. Castle is surprised.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Look, I, um...I can explain.

AUDREY O'NEILL
It was you?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
No. I have an alibi.

BECKETT
Alibis can be bought.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I didn't kill Anabelle.

CASTLE
Then why is your hand glowing?

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Because...when I found out some nerd was making real Thorian blasters, I figured if anybody should have one, it should be me. I'm Captain Max. So I tracked him down and I bought the last one.

[Max touches the blaster on his hip.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
This...

[He holds up his hand.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
...is from this morning. I shot it in my hotel room. There's a hole in the wall. You can check.

[Winters sits back in the captain's chair and Stephanie walks towards the exit.]

BECKETT
Stephanie, where are you going?

STEPHANIE FRYE
I was just gonna--

BECKETT
Hold it right there!

[Beckett points down to Stephanie's hand, which is glowing under the U.V. light by the door. The doors open behind her and she turns to run for it, but Esposito and Ryan are there. She dashes back into the room and grabs the blaster from Winter's hip, pointing it at his head.]

STEPHANIE FRYE
You heard the man.

[She cocks the blaster. Ryan and Esposito have their guns on her.]

STEPHANIE FRYE
This one's deadly. Nobody moves or I put a hole in his head.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Am I the only one that finds this situation eerily familiar?

BECKETT
Stephanie, why?

STEPHANIE FRYE
Do you know how long I have worked to get away from Lieutenant Chloe?

[Beckett rolls her eyes.]

STEPHANIE FRYE
To get away from the stench of this show? The fan experience was bad enough, but she was gonna sell the rights, and it was gonna start all over again - the movies, the product lines...

[Winters nods with a small pleased smile. Stephanie shakes her head in crazed anger.]

...Lieutenant Chloe bobbleheads! Do you know how hard I worked to make something of myself, to become a real actress?

[Winters bursts out laughing.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Oh, come on, Steph. You can't act your way out of a paper bag.

STEPHANIE FRYE
The only solace I have is, this time when I kill you, there is not an Andorian empath to bring you back from the dead.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I don't think so.

[Winters elbows her in the stomach and flips her onto her back, taking the blaster from her.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I've been waiting ten years to do that, bitch. Nobody takes over my ship.

[Castle's jaw is open. Beckett's looking up at him, totally star struck. Esposito and Ryan move in to cuff Stephanie. Winters holds his back.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Oh, it's a lot easier when the stunt guys do it.

BECKETT
Do you realize how lucky you are? You could've gotten yourself killed.

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
Not even.

[He holds up the gun.]

GABRIEL WINTERS A.K.A. CAPTAIN MAX
I had it on stun.

[He twirls the blaster and holsters it like Westerns. He winks at Beckett, clicking his tongue. Beckett whips around dramatically and crosses her arms.]

BECKETT
Stephanie Frye, you're under arrest for the murder of Anabelle Collins.

CASTLE
Oh, oh, oh, oh.

[Castle looks at Winters.]

CASTLE
May I?

[Winters nods. Castle and winters cross their arms like Beckett and they all face Stephanie.]

CASTLE
And may fortune guide your journey.

[Stephanie scoffs and Ryan leads her out.]

--
[39:58, INT. PRECINCT, BULLPEN - EVENING]

CASTLE
Doctor says my hand's gonna stop glowing in a few days.

BECKETT
So no mutant powers?

[Castle makes a sudden, crazy-faced Emperor force motion.]

CASTLE
No, not this time, but at least my hair's not falling out.

[Beckett takes down a photo of the Nebula Nine cast from the murder board with a smile.]

CASTLE
What about you? How are-- How are you doing?

BECKETT
I'm fine. Why?

CASTLE
Well, it's hard to see your idols fall.

BECKETT
Oh, Castle. Stephanie Frye was never my idol. Lieutenant Chloe was. And as far as I'm concerned, she's still out there fighting evil and saving humanity. And no self-centered actor is ever gonna take that from me.

[Castle smiles.]

BECKETT
And you know what? If they do make a movie, I'm gonna be first in line to see it.

CASTLE
Ah, such is the power of fantasy.

[They head for the exit.]

CASTLE
And...speaking of fantasies, how about we live out one of yours? What do you say to a little Nebula Nine cosplay?

[Beckett scoffs.]

CASTLE
Come on. It'll be fun. I'll serve you breakfast in bed for a week.

BECKETT
Pfft.

CASTLE
And I'll do your laundry.

BECKETT
Okay, fine. Do you really want to see me in one of my old costumes?

CASTLE
Yes, please.

BECKETT
Then you have to promise that you're gonna watch a Nebula Nine marathon with me.

CASTLE
I...

[Castle hesitates. Beckett hold out her hand to shake on the deal. Castle cringes, hesitating. He goes to shake her hand, but she pulls hers back.]

BECKETT
And...no making fun.

[Castle inhales sharply, pulling back his hand with a cringe. Beckett offers her hand again.]

CASTLE
You drive a hard bargain, but okay.

[They shake on it. Beckett leans in and whispers in his ear.]

BECKETT
I'll see you at your place.

[Castle freezes at the suggestion as she walks away, then rushes into the elevator and pushes the down button frantically, willing the doors to close faster.]

--
[41:26, INT. CASTLE LOFT - NIGHT]
[Castle sits propped on his elbow, waiting for Beckett to come out.]

BECKETT (O.S.)
Okay, promise not to laugh.

CASTLE
I promise. Come on. Quit stalling. Come out already.

BECKETT
Ready? (laugh)

[Castle sits up on the bed like an eager puppy.]

CASTLE
Ready.

[William Shatner song "Ideal Woman" starts as Beckett does a sexy dance, backing her legs into the bedroom. Castle is enthralled. Then Beckett whips her head out from behind the doorframe with a roar wearing a Creaver mask and huge blonde wig. Castle freaks and falls off the other side of the bed.]

BECKETT
Do you like it? Huh?

CASTLE
That's not what you-- That's not...

[Castle backs up and Beckett walks forward.]

BECKETT
You want to make out, Castle? Rawr.

CASTLE
No. I--

[Castle backs up and runs into the open door.]

BECKETT
Come on. Just a quick snog right here on the lips.

[Beckett points to the gaping Creaver jaws.]

BECKETT
Isn't this what your dreams are made of?

[Castle hastily closes the door.]

BECKETT
Rawr!

[Beckett giggles and goes to the door.]

BECKETT
Castle.

[Beckett knocks on the door.]

BECKETT
Are we gonna make out?

CASTLE
Maybe we should start with the Nebula Nine marathon.
